USDOE SEA Monitoring
Background
In January 2011, the US Department of Education (USDOE) initiated a monitoring visit to review the Florida Department of Education’s administration of the Public Charter School Program Grant (2008-11). USED performs this monitoring through a contract with WestEd.
According to the monitoring handbook, beyond ensuring compliance with Federal regulations, monitoring supports the alignment of State and local efforts with the goals of the CSP and the principles of No Child Left Behind. Monitoring provides local policy makers and educators with the data necessary to make educational improvements and holds states accountable for ensuring that charter schools and their students are well-supported in their pursuit of academic excellence.
